  26. The program CARLTON.EXE comprising the Card Game 'Carlton' and
  27. this documentation file is distributed as 'Shareware'. It is a
  28. fully functioning program. You may evaluate the program for a
  29. period of 30 days, after which continued use of the program
  30. requires registration with the author.

  32. I don't ask much for the registration fee, and will be pleased
  33. to send you an updated version of the program when you register
  34. provided you supply a disk and cover my costs.

  37. 3. Introduction
  38.  
  39. The Carlton Card Game is a two pack patience game described by
  40. David Pelter in his book 'The Penguin Book of Patience'. The
  41. game 'Carlton' is one of a family of related games with slightly
  42. varying rules and layouts. The principle variants described in
  43. the book have all been implemented in this program.
  44.  
  45. The program is written using Turbo Pascal for Windows from
  46. Borland (an excellent language product which I can thoroughly
  47. recommend).

  50. 4. Installation
  51.  
  52. 4.1 Requirements
  53.  
  54. An IBM PC AT or compatible. Microsoft Windows V3+. A mouse.
  55.  
  56. The program has been tested running under Microsoft Windows V3.0
  57. and V3.1 using hardware varying from an 8Mhz Tandon AT to an IBM
  58. 386DX Portable on a range of display adaptors.

  61. 4.2 Install
  62.  
  63. You should receive this software as a single self extracting
  64. archive file using the LZH format from Yoshi. (CARL_20.EXE)
  65.  
  66. To install the software from DOS
  67.  
  68. a) Copy the file CARL_20.EXE to the Drive and Directory you wish
  69.    to use for the installation.
  70.  
  71. b) Execute the file CARL_20.EXE.  
  72.  
  73. c) You will be prompted with a Copyright screen and the option
  74.    to proceed to install the program files.
  75.  
  76. d) The program will then de-archive the files
  77.  
  78.    CARLTON.EXE - the Windows Executable file.
  79.    CARLTON.HLP - the Windows Help file
  80.    CARLTON.TXT - this documentation file.

  82. You may include the CARLTON.EXE file in Windows Program Manager
  83. or double click on its filename in File Manager to launch the
  84. program.

  86. Once you have run the program and selected from the user
  87. definable options a further file
  88.  
  89. CARLTON.INI
  90.  
  91. will be found in the Directory containing your Windows Files.
  92. Should you wish to remove 'Carlton' from your system at a future
  93. date then this file may be deleted.

  95. Unless registered with the author the program will remind you
  96. periodically that the 'Good Guys' register their Shareware
  97. Programs.

  102. If you like this program and intend to continue using it then
  103. you may register your ownership with the author and receive your
  104. personal registration number.  This will stop the program
  105. nagging you to register.

  107. Registration costs five pounds sterling (or equivalent in
  108. readily convertible currency). If in addition you send me a disk
  109. with return packaging and postage for your location, I will 
  110. provide the most up to date version of the program and copies 
  111. of other Shareware programs I have written for you to try.

  152. PMPlus V1.1  - Enhances the Program Manager by allowing you to
  153.   nest one Program Group inside another. Adds depth to your 
  154.   workspace.

  156. TMPlus V1.1  - Windows Task Manager replacement. Includes all the
  157.   functionality of the original and adds a user definable menu
  158.   system to launch your programs as well as a Browse and Run 
  159.   facility to access your less used programs.

  161. For Programmers - if you are a programmer and use Turbo Pascal
  162. for Windows then I am also willing to sell a couple of Turbo
  163. Pascal Units (TPU files) which implement all the hard work in
  164. the card games 13 Out and Terrace and Carlton. All you need to
  165. add is the framework of the game plus the logic to implement its
  166. rules.  Give me a ring for more details.
